I have been a student with this school as an adult since 2013. The staff is great and they are very good with the children. If you are looking for after school activities and well as a martial arts that teaches discipline and self-confidence then I would visit the staff at this school.
They run a great martial arts program for all ages. The style is rooted in traditional taekwondo, with elements of Karate, Judo, and Jiu-Jitsu. My kids started here several years ago and I was so impressed that I started taking classes myself. The instructors are top notch and really care about their students' success.
My son started here in January 2015 with the after school karate program. We are SO happy that he is able to do this rather than the after school program at his school because he gets so much out of it! Not only does he have some time to get homework done, he gets a snack and has learned valuable skills and discipline.
My son started here in August 2016 through the after-school karate program. We learned about it as my nephew has been attending since August 2015. We have been VERY happy with everything and everyone there. He gets picked-up at his school and then goes to the facility for a snack and homework time.
Your first judo class at American School of Karate & Judo on Industrial
Nervous about walking into a judo dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good sensei expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, learning to fall safely (ukemi), then drilling a throw or two and some groundwork with a partner — not hard randori. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a judogi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner judogi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own judogi. Live randori eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
