From the reviews
Our young daughter went to class for the first time tonight and she loved it. Everyone was really kind to her and the teacher was very patient with her. It seems like a very positive environment with good instruction.
Awesome place to learn. I've been going here almost a year or so now. Sensei Brad is a stellar and well accomplished Sensei. Not only that, he has excellent people skills, so I never feel pressured or uncomfortable performing anything if I think I might injure myself or am not ready. Great dojo.
Originally going to give this 3 months, and now I am 18 months+ in. Instructors are knowledgeable and as safe as a Judo class can be. Highly recommend!
I have been training here for about 2.5 years now. Great instruction and fine tuning on my Judo. I've watched my son improve greatly in the same time and my daughter has been training with us for about a year now as well. All around great club and great experience.
Your first judo class at Dakota Budokan
Nervous about walking into a judo dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good sensei expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, learning to fall safely (ukemi), then drilling a throw or two and some groundwork with a partner — not hard randori. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a judogi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner judogi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own judogi. Live randori eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
