From the reviews

I have been studying under Master Weatherly at World of Martial Arts for almost 6 years now. I also help with the Juniors and Little Dragons classes. I take Taekwondo, Judo, and Hapkido. Master Weatherly is a great instructor and very engaging with any age from 3-4 year olds to teenagers to adults.

★★★★★ — Michelle, Aug 2024

Master Weatherly is the best. We tried several places in Fenton and Grand Blanc for Tae Kwon Do for my toddler but this is the only place we noticed he liked and that he actually gain confidence, concentration and fun! Been coming here for the little dragons class for a while.

★★★★★ — Maryb, Mar 2024

Master Weatherly left a life long impression on me years ago through my elementary school Carman park elementary in flint , he use to offer classes, I loved it until my first sparring event, the kid came running at me like a wild monkey I stepped back and kicked him in the face and I was disqualified I never went back…

★★★★★ — Oliver, Oct 2024

I really like the guy teaching this class so much patience because he has all young little children and they listen to him and he has a nice routine which is not too much cuz they're just starting nice program

Your first judo class at World Martial Arts Academy

Nervous about walking into a judo dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good sensei expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, learning to fall safely (ukemi), then drilling a throw or two and some groundwork with a partner — not hard randori. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a judogi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner judogi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own judogi. Live randori eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.

Judo is a contact sport. Ease in, tap early and often, listen to your sensei, and if you have any injuries or health concerns, mention them before class and check with a doctor if you're unsure.
