Newaza (Judo Groundwork) Classes
Newaza is judo's ground game — the pins (osaekomi), holds, turnovers and controls that take over the moment a throw brings the action to the mat, plus the chokes and armlocks that older and more advanced grades add in. It complements the throwing side of judo: many matches are won by holding an opponent down or forcing a submission after the throw, so time on the ground is time well spent. A newaza class drills these positions and then lets you practise them live in ground randori at a controlled pace. It suits people who love the mat game and anyone curious about the crossover with Brazilian jiu-jitsu, judo's close relative.
