Private lessons are one-on-one (or small-group) sessions with a sensei, and they are the fastest way to make progress in judo: every minute is spent on you, so technique gets corrected in real time, questions get answered, and the pace fits exactly where you are. People book privates to build confidence before joining group classes, to sharpen specific throws or groundwork, to train around a schedule that group timetables don't fit, or to prepare for shiai. They tend to cost more per session than group classes, and availability depends on the instructor. Expect focused, tailored coaching, expect faster improvement than group classes alone, and ask the dojo about rates and which senseis teach privately.
