From the reviews
Sensei Ralph is an excellent example of what Judo is about. Not only is he a great instructor, but also a great student and competitor always striving to be better everyday. I’ve trained with him for several years and have experienced that he always does his best to make us all better as well as himself.
Coach,Ralph Lahound I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for the incredible coaching I’ve received. From the very first class, your dedication to both the art of Judo and your students has been evident.
Ralph was my sensei over 25 years ago and I cannot recommend him highly enough. He coaches with compassion and respect, for every age and skill level, and truly cares about his students and their families.
Ralph Sensei is a very skilled instructor. He helped me get back into judo after taking 18 years off . He guided me in my return and offered solid advice to improve my throws and techniques. He is patient and encouraging .
Your first judo class at Panthers Judo & self defense
Nervous about walking into a judo dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good sensei expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, learning to fall safely (ukemi), then drilling a throw or two and some groundwork with a partner — not hard randori. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a judogi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner judogi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own judogi. Live randori eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
